COIMBATORE: In a bid to ensure maximum punishment to Malaysian fraudster Michael Soosai, City Police Commissioner TP Sundaramoorthy on Thursday sent a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) K Ramanujam, seeking the appearance of state advocate general on behalf of the city police in the trial against the high profile job racketeer.
Facing charges of murder and cheating, Michael Soosai is a highly controversial criminal figure at the international level and police officials feel only an expert lawyer can fight and win cases against him, confirmed a source at DGP office. The international job racketeer is now being confined at a special camp in Chengalpattu in Kancheepuram district.
Though he is not an Indian citizen, Soosai had faked many documents including driving license and PAN card. Transport authorities have already confirmed that his driving license was issued based on fabricated supporting documents. The city police have already approached income tax department to inquire how he got the PAN card. To get the advocate general to argue cases charged against Soosai, police officials are awaiting a government order entrusting him of the task.
Michael Soosai, a citizen of Malaysia, was involved in many cheating cases across Tamil Nadu. He evaded arrest on many occasions though Interpol had issued a notice for his capture in all international airports. He was finally arrested in Coimbatore in August 2010. He faces a murder case in Chennai and four major cheating cases in Coimbatore city and one cheating case in Hosur.
Soosai, who was actively involved in Malaysian politics, was booked in 20 cheating cases by the Malaysian Federal Police in the last leg of the eighties. He escaped to Chennai with his wife using fake passports to avoid arrest there. Before leaving India, he even faked his death, where his close confidents had documents that stated he was cremated on September 12, 2003. It was after Soosai killed his Malaysian driver in Chennai after he fell in love with his daughter in 2009, the Malaysian police realized that the racketeer was alive. His run finally ended in August 2010 when the Coimbatore police nabbed him and recovered Rs 18 lakh in cash and Rs one lakh in gold jewels on August 22, 2010.
