KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu denied Friday that he had instructed the then Maju Institute of Educational Development CEO P. Chithirakala to withdraw RM4 million from MIED's accounts and prepare three cheques to purchase shares for his son, S. Vell Paari.

"Its a lie, I never gave such instruction," Samy Vellu said under cross-examination by P. Chithirakala's counsel J. Chandra, at the Sessions Court here.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu earns just over RM27,000 per month plus allowances as special envoy for infrastructure to India and South Asia, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) disclosed today.

In a written reply to Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, the PMO said the former works minister is paid RM27,227.20 to help Malaysian construction firms break into the South Asian market.

Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, 74, was the longest serving Cabinet minister and is often a favourite subject for jokes aimed at his hair and colourful Bahasa Melayu quips. He was also regularly featured in the works of cartoonist Datuk Mohamad Nor Khalid, better known as Lat. Still, little is known about the man who held the helm of the party for 11 consecutive terms in 31 years.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- "Maintain party unity and stability" will be MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu's parting words to the party's powerful Central Working Committee (CWC) members at their meeting on Dec 6.

Samy Vellu, who is expected to hand over the party's leadership to his deputy, Datuk G. Palanivel soon after the CWC meeting, said he would stress on the need for the party to maintain an effective leadership and preserve unity to ensure MIC's survival.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu is set to be appointed as the government’s special envoy for infrastructure with ministerial status as part of a deal which will see him quit as MIC president. The former Works Minister’s appointment is expected to take effect on Dec 1. It was previously reported that he would hand over the party reins to his deputy Datuk G. Palanivel in January.

SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- The High Court today struck out a RM10-million defamation suit brought by MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu against the party's former Youth chief S.Vigneswaran and three others over an allegedly defamatory article.

Justice Datuk Zaleha Yusof made the decision in chambers, allowing the applications by Vigneswaran and the three others to strike out the suit.
