It is strange that Dato Samy Vellu is on Al Jazzera defending the government on its action against Hindraf. What is the fear of this group handing over a petition to the British High Commission? Samy Vellu was lying through his teeth when he said the British High Commission is closed on Sunday.
The British High Commission did have a staff there on Sunday for the sold purpose of accepting the petition. In 50 years of being a member of the coalition government, almost 30 years were under Samy Vellu leadership. In 30 years, Samy Vellu personal wealth and the wealth of his cronies have increased. In these same 30 years all Indians growth and wealth have diminished. Samy Vellu claims that he has often voiced to the government when he is not happy of some of the government decision. The truth to be told. Voicing your opinion is not the same as delivering results to the Indian community. Samy Vellu in 30 years with MIC spent more time and energy in making sure no one is left to challenge him. Whatever energy and time left, he used it to bring people who will only agree with him to power within MIC. Today MIC has become nothing more than a venue for the few to enrich themselves.
Let’s get something straight. When was the last time MIC was able to change a government policy that marginalized the Indian community. He was not even able to stop the government from demolishing a 100 year old temple. But here is this man claiming he voice his opinion whenever he is not happy. On that day, if the people gathered there were Bumiputras and the temple is a mosque, no court appointee will be there delivering a notice. Getting you opinion published in Tamil Nesan does not mean you have done your job. Indian in Malaysia needs leaders who will defend the Indian community from further erosion because of Bumiputra policies. We don't need more people like Samy Vellu who cannot push the government for the Indian benefit. So in turn Samy Vellu has become a spokesperson for the government. It is a sad day when Samy Vellu is defending the government instead of the Indian community.
Prime Minister Badawi claims that the Barisan Nasional and its power sharing approach have benefited the country in last Umno general assembly. I don't remember the last time Malaysia had a non-Malay as Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister. Only Badawi knows what power sharing he is talking about when power is never shared. The deputy Prime Minister Najib claims Indian are not marginalized. Then how do we explain the status quo that Indian is facing today in Malaysia. As long as all government policies are not drawn based on economics but based on race, marginalization happens. But then again Najib's father is the architect of marginalization.
But in the end, Indian needs to question if Samy Vellu is man that the Indian community can trust. So far Samy Vellu ambition has been his pocket book. One of the reasons we are marginalized is because over the last 30 years we were preached by our own leaders about working together in this coalition. Our leaders if not fooled themselves, have fooled us Indian people in Malaysia. It is self evident that the Malays have been able to control us better by swallowing us into Barisan Nasional in the false pretense of power sharing.
