Rayer Challenges Ramasamy To Present Evidence

GEORGE TOWN, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer has challenged Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy and his personal assistant, M.Satees Kumar to present evidence and name the two Penang assemblymen who had allegedly misused power as claimed in a social website.

Rayer, who is also Penang DAP committee member, said they would be given 24 hours to show proof and explain the allegations.

"I challenge them to present evidence, name the assemblymen involved and lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police. They are cowards if they fail to do so," he said during a news conference, here Friday.

He said this when commenting on a newspaper report that Satees Kumar had disclosed the misconduct of two Penang assemblymen in a social website.

Satees Kumar claimed that one of the assemblymen had to resign as a company director and was paid a commission by a developer.

Satees Kumar further alleged that another elected representative had misappropriated state government funds to pay for a personal chauffeur.

"He (Satees Kumar) did not say so, but from his accusations I know that it is directed towards me and Bagan Dalam assemblyman A. Tanasekharan," said Rayer.

Rayer said he believed the allegation arose following his reprimand against Ramasamy who did not respect DAP veteran and national chairman Karpal Singh.

"I am not guilty and if they (Satees Kumar and Ramasamy) have proof then please make a report to the MACC. I am ready to see them in court," he said.

Meanwhile, Rayer said they were forced to cancel a peaceful assembly urging Ramasamy to apologise for his statement, which branded Karpal as 'Godfather', following interference from several quarters.

He said the assembly expected to be attended by over 3,000 Penang DAP members was supposed to be held this evening in front of the DAP headquarters here.

"I received a call from Karpal, DAP Adviser Lim Kit Siang and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng this morning to cancel the peaceful assembly so we conceded," he said.

He said Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, will hold an ad hoc meeting tonight to discuss the issue on Ramasamy.

Ramasamy was reported to have announced during a function recently that he and three Indian women will be contesting in the 13th general election.

Following this, Karpal, who is also Bukit Gelugor MP, warned Ramasamy not to name his allies as candidates.
