Rajinikanth Returns

Contributed by Anonymous on Friday, July 15 @ 10:47:08 CDT

IndiaSrinivasa Ramanujam, TNN | Jul 15, 2011

Firecrackers and whistles rented the air as Superstar Rajinikanth made his way out of the Chennai International Airport on Wednesday night. The star arrived to a tumultuous welcome to blaring music and cheering slogans of his fans. A scene straight out of his entry in any of his movies, it was a heroic moment indeed!

had not even set foot into the Singapore airport and the celebrations had already begun back home in Chennai. Banners were put up in every nook and corner of the city, heralding the arrival of the Superstar. Numerous auto rickshaws heading towards the airport, carried scores of diehard fans to greet their thalaivar. The sequence of events was uncannily similar to what happens on the opening day of a Rajini movie.

However, what made this different was they were going to see the demi-god in person! That too after six exasperating weeks of not knowing the actual status of his health.

Neenga arasiyaluku poga vendam, a few fans shouted at the International Airport arrival entrance, screaming, Veetuku pona porum. Acting on a tip-off, some waited at the VIP entrance at Gate 6, shouting slogans and creating a festive atmosphere.

Much to the relief of all, a bearded Rajini finally stepped out of the arrival hallway with his wife Latha and daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya. Dressed in a simple white shirt and black trousers, the 'Basha' greeted the crowd with his usual 'Vanakkam' gesture and got into his car waving to the crowd. Said a source, The actual plan was for the Superstar to walk near the crowd, wave to them and even talk to the media. But security was tightened at the airport after the bomb blasts in Mumbai. And, once he arrived, things went haywire. The policemen, perhaps in a bid to get close to the Superstar, made it virtually impossible for him to come anywhere near the crowd. Taking stock of the situation, the actor got into his car along with his family members.

Even then, only half the problem had been solved. Hundreds of media persons, fans and policemen prevented the car from moving forward. Said a source, He walked briskly from the aeroplane to the airlines bus, which was waiting to take him till his car. He was smiling most of the time, which means good news for all his fans and supporters.

When the actor's car finally started moving, overenthusiastic fans still hadn't got enough of their favourite star. One of them managed to get his hand through the window and even touched the Superstar. It was mayhem out there, said R Suresh, a fan who'd come all the way from Vadapalani just to get a glimpse of the star, But I managed to see him and he looks fine. That's all that matters to me.

For several fans like him, there were only two kinds of people at the airport on Wednesday night those who'd seen Rajinikanth and those who hadn't.
