Selangor MIC Information chief Siva
Subramaniam yesterday claimed the second Anti Samy Vellu Movement (GAS)
rally at Dewan Hamzah, Klang, was gatecrashed by 500 MIC supporters and
not 50 as reported by most media.
"Initially, I said 5,000 MIC supporters will gatecrash the event but
that was only if the police issued them a permit. Since the gathering
did not obtain a police permit, only 500 of us went to the event.
However, only 50 of us got involved in the confrontation that occurred
that day while the others observed the goings-on," he said in a
telephone interview with The Malay Mail
He also claimed they were genuine MIC supporters and not gangsters,
as alleged by many.
"We did not go there to pick a fight. We went there to debate with
them about Samy Vellu and MIC."
Siva also claimed the coordinators of GAS did not have a proper
"When they applied for a police permit, they said that they were
going to do prayers for the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional. When
they applied for the hall, the reason used was to hold a dialogue
session. When they sent SMSes to invite people, they said it was for GAS
2. What is this? Where is their stand?"
On sacked central working committee (CWC) member and GAS coordinator
K.P. Samy's accusation that the 50 MIC supporters acted like "uneducated
barbarians", Siva pointed out that the former only completed primary
"Ask him not to talk so much as he did nothing for the Indian
community. I challenge him to a public debate with us on his
contributions to the community," he said, adding if GAS organised future
events against Samy Vellu, MIC supporters would definitely attend.
Meanwhile, K.P. Samy rubbished the claim by Siva, saying the hall had
a seating capacity for only 1,800 and GAS supporters totalled 1,500.
"So, how could 500 MIC members sit on the remaining 300 chairs?" he
asked. "I'm prepared for the debate. Ask him to name the place and
platform. I will be there."
He also denied Siva's claim he had only primary school education.
"I only managed to complete my Standard Six? No, that's not true. I
did not go to school at all. That's why I speak good English. Oh yes,
did I mention I will register myself into a kindergarten tomorrow? I'm
also planning to apply for a MIED loan for my kindergarten studies."
