H Selangor elections: Dato Subra’s Press Statement on Hulu Selangor by-election

Contributed by Anonymous on Monday, April 05 @ 08:53:18 CDT

April 05 2010 -- Since the announcement of the Hulu Selangor by-election there have been articles written by anonymous writers in Samy Vellu’s family owned Tamil daily, Tamil Nesan implying that  my supporters and I are not supporting Dato G. Palanivel’ candidature in Hulu Selangor.

These articles are written with sinister and ulterior political motive to sow seeds of hatred and animosity among MIC and BN supporters. Instead of using the Hulu Selangor by-election as an opportunity to unite the different factions in MIC and to bring them to work together to win the seat what Samy Vellu has set out to do is create further animosity between supporters of MIC leaders, thereby further damaging BN’s chances of securing a victory in Hulu Selangor.

The articles written in Tami Nesan launch a two-prong attack against  my supporters and I. The first is that I am behind the moves which call for the Hulu Selangor seat not to be given to MIC or to Palanivel again. Everyone knows that these calls in fact come from UMNO and its leaders and the reasons cited by them clearly explain that MIC and its leadership are not in a strong position to win back the seat. These UMNO leaders claim that a weak MIC,  whose popularity among the Indian community is at its lowest today,  is the reason why the seat should be given to UMNO as they feel that UMNO rather than MIC would have a better chance of winning the seat at this crucial moment.
By implicating me with statements from leaders of UMNO, Tamil Nesan is only  insulting the intelligence and political wisdom of these UMNO leaders.

Even before the candidate is announced, is it necessary to start such a controversy on Palanivel in Hulu Selangor? Will it help the voters to support a BN candidate? Does Samy Vellu want to deny knowledge of this despicable act of Tamil Nesan which is in fact causing damage to BN’s chances in Hulu Selangor?

The articles in Tamil Nesan also allege that I am plotting for the defeat of Palanivel and  instigating some independent candidates to stand  against Palanivel. There is also an insinuation that I worked against Samy Vellu and BN in Sungei Siput during the 2008 general election. I wish to point out here that when such insinuations and allegations on Sungei Siput appeared in Tamil Nesan a few months back, I had categorically denied them and had already filed a legal suit on this matter against Tamil Nesan which is pending hearing.

As to Independent candidates in Hulu Selangor, I wish to point out at this stage that so far there are three Indian candidates who have publicly declared  their intention to stand as independents. One is V.Chandran who was  a staunch supporter of Samy Vellu and Palanivelu, but has recently been expelled from MIC. He was also the former Deputy Chairman of Hulu Selangor MIC division.
The other person who has announced to contest as an independent is A.Rajaratnam who has a long track record with Indian NGO movements in the country and known to  act independently without political affiliations.
The third is one T. Ananthan who contested for a Central Working Committee (CWC) position at the 2009 MIC elections and lost. He was also an employee in Tamil Nesan a few years ago.

In their interviews with “Malaysian Insider” two of the Independent candidates namely T.Ananthan and V.Chandran have clearly stated that they are standing as independents  “to teach Samy Vellu a lesson”.

Even in a news article published today (5th April 2010)  Tamil Nesan’s sinister motives are explicitly exposed. While reporting about a ceramah by Samy Vellu in Hulu Selangor which was disrupted by one MAIKA Holdings shareholder S.Nadarajah who had raised about the MAIKA Holding issue, the paper has taken pains to link me with Nadarajah. People cannot be hoodwinked as everyone knows that Nadarajah  has more than a -10 year history of feuds and court battles with Samy Vellu over the MAIKA Holdings issues and MAIKA Holdings AGMs.

These articles continuously appearing in Samy Vellu’s family owned Tamil Nesan only goes to show Samy Vellu’s desperate attempts in conspiring to find scapegoats and plausible reasons now itself in the event MIC is defeated in Hulu Selangor.

Samy Vellu knows that a defeat in Hulu Selangor or the failure of BN to secure Indian votes in that constituency would only point to his failed leadership in MIC as he has lot of answering to do on the highly publicized scandals in MAIKA Holdings Bhd, MIED and AIMST University and on the attempts by some private individuals to hijack the prized assets of MIED.
Despite all his failures and setbacks, however, Samy Vellu still wants to be the sole campaigner in Hulu Selangor on behalf of MIC and is clearly making a frantic attempt to save his leadership in the Party, by finding fault with all other leaders in MIC except him. Samy Vellu also fears that a possible defeat in Hulu Selangor would further accelerate his departure from MIC as he may not be able to find any more reasons to further continue as President of MIC amidst mounting pressure for him to step down.

Many have stated categorically that the presence of Samy Vellu is a major set-back for BN in Hulu Selangor and an internet news website Malaysian Insider even quoted “Samy Vellu is a major handicap and problem for BN”

Under the cir*****stances attempts by Samy Vellu’s family owned Tamil Nesan to implicate me with the developments in Hulu Selangor is highly irresponsible and mischievous and I strongly condemn such insinuations and allegations.
