The DAP candidate for Klang alleges they are mostly Bugis and Suluks, and links them to mystery flights from East Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA: There are 1,172 suspicious names in the electoral rolls for three parliamentary constituencies in Selangor, according to Charles Santiago, DAP’s candidate for the Klang parliamentary seat.
He told FMT he would lodge a complaint today with the Election Commission.
“We have found 571 suspicious names in Klang, 352 in Kota Raja, and 249 in Kuala Langat,” he said.
“They are mostly Bugis and Sulu people from the Philippines.
“We are also notifying our polling agents to lodge a complaint with the polling managers if they come across these names on polling day.”
Santiago said he got the numbers of the dubious voters based on figures given at the ongoing Sabah Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah.
He said that out of the 120,000 dubious names listed by the Sabah RCI, these 1,172 were registered as voters in Selangor.
“Of these, 571 of them are registered as voters in the Klang constituency,” claimed Santiago.
Yesterday, Pakatan Rakyat chief Anwar Ibrahim claimed he had evidence that the Prime Minister’s Office was collaborating with national carrier MAS and private airlines such as AirAsia to transport 30,000 phantom voters from East Malaysia to the peninsula.
The Prime Minister’s Office has dismissed the allegation as false without elaborating, but Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has said the flights were paid for by “friends of BN”.
Santiago asked Tengku Adnan to explain who the passengers were.
